30-07-2010

  • Traffic growth on Polish airports
The first half of 2010 gave a traffic boost on Polish airports. From the report of the Civil Aviation Office for the first six months of the year 2010 we can see that the passenger traffic increased by 5.4% (466 thousand). In total, airports served 9 million 101 thousand passengers.

In analyzed period, regional airports made the highest growth: Rzeszow Jesionka (20.1%), Gdansk Lech Walesa (16.9%) and Wroclaw Starachowice (16.3%). Also a small airport in Babimost (23.5%). All together regional airports served 5 million 197 thousand passengers (7.3% more than the year before). Thanks to the higher development than Chopin Airport in Warsaw (growth of 2.9%), regional airports increased their market share up to 57.1% (56.3% in the year 2009).

What is curious, the growth was noticed in every month, starting from the 4th quarter of 2009, noting a level of 13% in June 2010. For comparison, according to IATA, passenger traffic increased by 12% in June 2010. The only exception was April, when due to the volcanic ash, traffic on Polish airports dropped by 11%, in comparison with April 2009.
