  • Local governments no longer want to build airports
In Civil Aviation Office only one application is waiting to be considered for establishing touristic airport – Bagicz near Kolobrzeg.

Just a year ago we were waiting for the start of construction of the seven new airports. The projects were about to begin in September 2009, when Ministry of Defence gave to the local governments old military airports in Biala Podlaska, Pila, Nowe Miasto, Szczytno-Szymany, Gdynia-Kosakowo, Radom and Sochaczew. From this group, only Sochaczew began the procedures. ULC gave it the promise for opening the airport, as for the Swidnik and Kielce.

Katarzyna Krasnodębska, spokesmen of ULC, said that the local governments changed their mind to open new airports, when they made an analysis of the costs. For the beginning around 100 million zł is needed, and during another years, over a dozen of million each year. But local governments do not have money, and the EU grants are given to the eight biggest polish airports: Warsaw, Cracow, Katowice, Wroclaw, Poznan, Gdansk, Rzeszow and Szczecin.

Zbigniew Salek, Deputy of IAAE, said that the projects of the new airports will be created when the private investors will join the game.
