Increase of rail transport

According to Departament of Railway Communication’s data, Polish railway companies transported nearly 187 million tonnes of cargo, which means over 40 billion tonne-kilometers of transport work done from January to September this year.

Compared with three quarters of 2010, this means an increase of 8.4 percent and 13.4 percent.
The main cause of increase in freight cargo transport was high demand for building materials used for the construction of new roads in Poland.

The largest share in the increased transport work in the first three quarters of this year had PKP group (Cargo and LHS) - 69.3 percent, CTL - 7.2 percent, Lotus Rail - 7.1 percent and DB Schenker – 6,5 percent.

Departament of Railway Communication has previously reported that from January to September this year the amount of intermodal rail transport has increased significantly by noting best score - 340 thousand containers - over 30 percent more than a year ago.
